Alissa Rhodes is a seasoned early childhood professional with nearly thirty years of dedicated service to young children, families, and Family Child Care Educators across Western North Carolina. A graduate of Western Carolina University, she holds a Bachelor of Science in Child and Family Studies with a minor in Communication, along with Level III Administrative Credentials. Her career reflects a lifelong commitment to elevating early care and education through practice, leadership, and advocacy.
Alissa’s professional journey spans a wide range of roles, including infant–toddler teacher, preschool teacher, Early Head Start teacher, center manager, training specialist, quality enhancement specialist, and small business owner of her own Family Child Care Home, A Sense of Wonder. She has served on multiple committees and boards, presented at conferences statewide, and mentored Family Child Care Homes throughout Buncombe County.
For more than a decade, Alissa has been a powerful advocate for Family Child Care Homes. She has authored petitions, supported legislative and rule changes, and worked alongside colleagues to successfully influence ratio laws and other policies impacting the field. Her passion lies in mentoring, training, and equipping Family Child Care professionals with the tools and confidence they need to thrive.
In 2024, Alissa transitioned from operating her FCC home to focusing full‑time on advocacy, training, and mentorship—expanding her impact across North Carolina and beyond. Her work continues to strengthen the voice, visibility, and sustainability of Family Child Care Homes, aligning deeply with FCCEF’s mission.
Outside of her professional life, Alissa enjoys time with her loving husband, two daughters, and their dogs and cats. She finds joy in reading, baking, and going to the movies.
